Before your open house, you’ll want to ensure your home is properly prepared– so it goes without saying that before all of these, your house will be cleaned, organized, and any maintenance or repairs are done!
Follow our tips below to go above and beyond and ensure your open house is a success!
Be Thoughtful
Part of the benefit of an open house is that it allows potential buyers to envision the space as their own. This can be hard to do if they can only be inside for a few minutes without getting a headache! It’s important your home smells fresh, but avoid anything harsh like essential oils or strongly scented candles.
To help your guests (and yourself!), place a few thick rubber mats near the front door or some shoe covers. Guests can opt to do either, and you can rest easy knowing there won’t be dirt tracked throughout your home.
Put Out Snacks and Drinks
To encourage people to stay and get to know your home, put out some snacks and drinks! Some people go for a charcuterie board, while others opt for prepackaged bags of chips or cookies. Either way, your potential buyers will appreciate it!
Tip: if you’re using disposable cups or plates, make sure you have a clear area for garbage and recycling!
Make It Easier On Yourself
This is for each of the above and in general! You don’t want to return to your home after an open house to floors tracked with mud, or a pile of dishes to wash. So if you want to opt for paper plates instead of glass ones, or mini disposable bottles of water: go for it! At the end of the day, it’s the thought that counts!
